REVIEWS FROM VARIOUS SOURCES

Great compilation
Caravan have been one of my favourite bands for a few decades now. Always original in their approach, they are quite hard to define. Earlier material had a lot of flowing melodies over landscapes of jazz chord structures. Quite trippy, but rather lovely in its way. Later, more mainstreem product was sort of like a tongue-in-cheek and very English Doobie Brothers... with the emphasis on 'sort of'. . This compilation is a great introduction to what they got up to from the '90s up to more or less the present, a period that some of the fans out there might have missed. Their hay-day was very much in the 70's prog era, but due to public demand, they kept being dragged back into the limelight, and are touring still. Those of you who missed albums like 'Cool Water' (1994), 'The Unauthorised Breakfast Itmen' (2003), or any of their struff between might find this compilation a boon. My only disappointment is that it is a compilation, not a missing masterpiece. One drawback with buying from Amazon is that if no one has reviewed an album you can't always be sure what you're getting until it arrives. So, a great compilation, but if,like me, you already have the material on the original albums it's a bit of a wastre of time.
